Brazos Bend State Park

It's President's Day weekend 2011 and we are in Brazos Bend Texas State Park.  This park is very full of RVers and we didn't arrive until yesterday (Saturday) so our choice of campsites was pretty limited.  We ended up in this relatively short space which our 38' motorhome barely fit into.

Brazos Bend is noted for its alligator population which is estimated at around 300.  We took a couple of hikes looking for one but didn't see any this time.  Below is a photo we took of one on a previous trip.

On Saturday afternoon my friend Dudley and his wife Lisa came to visit us.  Dudley has a friend who works at the George Observatory which is located here in the park.  On Saturday evenings the observatory is open to the public and we were able to get a personal guided tour.  We all got a look at the Orion Nebula through the 36-inch Gueymard Research Telescope, one of the largest available in the U.S. for public viewing.
